Katarina Wit began skating at age five. Her talent soon became obvious as she enrolled into a school specifically designed that caters to children who have a passion for sports in Karl-Marx-Stadt. They met Jutta Muller in this school. Witt placed second in the World Championships of Copenhagen in 1982. This marked her debut. Following that, she started winning the competition with elegance and grace. Olympic triumph Katarina (now Witt) was awarded the Figure Skating Gold Medal during the Sarajevo Winter Games. She won a much closer contest the following year. Although she lost in the free-skating contest, gold medal was awarded to her performances on the mandatory figures as well as the program in short form. Witt was the first female to take home a gold medal in both women's and men's figure-skating in the past since Sonja Hiene. Hall of Fame Witt, who had achieved success in film as an actress before returning to figure skating to compete at the Lillehammer Winter Games 1994. In spite of not receiving the gold medal, she was a hit with the spectators. The year 1995 was the year that Witt was inducted into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame.
